Fodor's Expert Review Firehouse No. 1

Nevada City Notable Building

With its gingerbread-trim bell tower, Firehouse No. 1 has been one of the Gold Country's most distinctive buildings since 1861. The museum inside, worth a peek if it's open, houses artifacts from the gold rush, the Nisenan people, the ill-fated Donner Party, and the altar from a Chinese joss house (temple).
