Fodor's Expert Review Ocean at Main

Set in a handsomely renovated former bank from the 1940s, Ocean at Main’s dishes are artfully presented and feature the best of California produce. Owned by the O.C.’s favorite chef, Craig Strong (who guided Studio at Montage for almost a decade), there’s an expected emphasis on service but without pretension. The main dining room has custom-made upholstered banquets in cool grays and blues, contemporary art and a long bar, all under wrought-iron chandeliers. Strong’s fine French technique shines in the wood-fired pizza topped with turkey sausage, beet tartare topped with a golden beet yolk, and the Bordelaise-topped beef tenderloin. Interesting craft cocktails, O.C.-brewed craft beers, and California wines are featured. The low-lit outdoor patio, with its historic fountain and tiles, is the place for a romantic rendezvous.
