A genteel antidote to Healdsburg's mania for tech-chic accommodations, this inn occupies a turn-of-the-20th-century office building whose former tenants include a Wells, Fargo & Co. Express office and stagecoach stop. It's one of several Wine Country properties—others include Glen Ellen's Gaige House and the Kenwood Inn & Spa—run by the California-based Four Sisters mini-chain.
Tip The inn sits right on Healdsburg Plaza, making this a sensible choice if you'll be dining in town during your stay.

Room
The rooms, done in muted shades of green, brown, blue, and yellow, have electric or gas fireplaces and retain some original architectural elements. Although the high ceilings and carved molding recall the era of the building's construction, the furnishings are contemporary. Some rooms have bay-window nooks, and others have balconies.
You Should Know Street noise is audible in plaza-facing rooms.
Bathroom
Six of the inn's dozen rooms have jetted whirlpool tubs, and a few others have vintage-style clawfoot tubs. All have white-tile floors in a classic pattern, with other period touches like pedestal sinks and brass lighting fixtures.
Lobby
The inn's street-front lobby contains the front desk, a few chairs, a computer for guest use, and brochures about area businesses. A brick-lined staircase that looks out of a set from Hollywood's golden era leads up to the most of the guest rooms and the large public area where breakfast and, in the afternoon, cookies are served.
Dining
The innkeepers serve breakfast (included in the rate) in the upstairs common room. A frittata with caramelized onion and feta cheese headlined a recent menu that also included pancakes, cranberry-almond scones, grapefruit and orange slices, house-made granola, Greek yogurt, and various breads. Freshly baked cookies are laid out in the early afternoon, wine and hors d'oeuvres a few hours later.

Getting Around
Many shops, restaurants, galleries, and tasting rooms are within walking distance of the inn, making it easier to spend a day or two here without using a car, and many wineries are within a short drive. Sonoma County Bus 60 serves Healdsburg from Santa Rosa; Bus 67, a shuttle, serves portions of downtown but isn't convenient for winery touring.

Among the downtown restaurants the inn's staff recommends are Dry Creek Kitchen (1-minute walk), Barndiva (2-minute walk) and Valette (3-minute walk) for Modern American cuisine, Willi's Seafood & Raw Bar (2-minute walk) for seafood-oriented small plates, and the Healdsburg Bar & Grill (1-minute walk) for a burger and a brew.
Bars
Duke's Spirited Cocktails (2-minute walk) specializes in farm-to-table cocktails. Tastings, food pop-ups, and DJ-dancing and trivia nights draw a youngish crowd to Bergamot Alley (3-minute walk), a wine shop and beer and wine bar (reasonable corkage fee on the shop's wines).
