Fodor's Expert Review Abigaile Restaurant and Brewery/Alta House

Hermosa Beach Bars

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Originally a church and then a Black Flag punk band rehearsal space, the building hosting Abigaile has a long history of the sacred and the profane. This is reflected in the cheeky brewery and gastropub's decor (think pew seating, an altar bar, and graffitied walls) and an incredibly diverse, globally inspired new American menu by chef Tin Vuong, which includes smoked pork confit "pop tarts," a Medjool date and kale salad, and the Buddha Belly Feast for vegans. Abigaile also churns out a wide range of ales from its in-house copper brewing system, which serves as the bar's backdrop. Upstairs, the newly renovated Alta House lounge (with a shared kitchen) is the place for sunset cocktails, boasting ocean views, comfortable seating, and a DJ.
