Fodor's Expert Review Custom Hotel

8639 Lincoln Blvd., Los Angeles, California, 90045, USA

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Close enough to LAX to see the runways, the Custom Hotel is a playful and practical redo of a 12-story, mid-century modern tower by famed L.A. architect Welton Becket (of Hollywood's Capitol Records building and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion). Deck 33 is the sociable poolside restaurant and lounge with fire pit. Practical details include the soundproofed windows, ample bedside lighting, and free LAX shuttle. Close to all the beach towns with a decent public park across the street, the hotel is a welcome addition to the Westside's often pricey stays.

PROS

  • shuttle to LAX
  • close to beach and airport
  • socializing at poolside restaurant/lounge, Deck 33

CONS

  • at the desolate end of Lincoln Boulevard
  • thin walls
  • in need of updating
