Culver Hotel

Why We Like It

Culver Hotel is a landmark and preserves that status with an array of amenities. The nightlife scene here is the hub of the entire area with live music, happy hour deals, and delicious bites. Rooms are well-appointed and cozy and service is spot on. There’s no pool or spa, but you couldn’t find a better location for great eats, drinks, shopping, and attractions. The hotel has been around for nearly 100 years, and with all they provide their guests and neighbors, we look forward to 100 more.

Fodor's Expert Review

Built in a Flatiron style in 1924, the Culver Hotel is not only a Culver City landmark, but a beacon and centerpiece of the city itself. Standing over freshly minted shops, restaurants, and boutiques, the hotel is the hub of Culver nightlife and gives guests a rotating array of entertainment from art gallery openings to live music. Staying here will make you feel like you’re in the heart of the action and gives you a great window into all that Culver and LA has to offer. Oh, and for you film history buffs, the Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz used to stay here!

Room

Upper floor rooms provide sweeping views of the entire city. Standard accommodations are replete with hardwood floors, old armoires, stuffed fireplaces, and classic stylings. Free coffee is available in the rooms as well as slippers to remind you of your stay.

Bathroom

Gilchrist & Soames products line the marble countertops and white-tiled floors lead to varying shower/tub combos or free-standing versions of each.

Lobby

The hub of the hotel is definitely the lobby. Here you’ll find an array of mismatched furniture, square pillars, brass moldings, and very high ceilings. The lobby has an old school vibe, enhanced by a great bar and of course a traditional afternoon tea service.

Tip Afternoon tea service is either $28 or $39 and includes scones, pastries, finger sandwiches, and more!

Gym

A small gym is equipped with Startrac bikes and treadmills and free weights are available for workout heads.

Dining

The lobby restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also features a patio out back where you can witness the comings and goings of the busy Culver denizens. Modern American cuisine is on the menu.

Tip Every Tuesday there’s a Farmers Market across the street from the hotel.

Drinking

To fully experience the hotel, you should hang out at the lobby bar. Here you’ll find daily happy hour specials, amazing tap beers, nightly live music, and more. For an even more bustling scene, check out the hotel’s Velvet Lounge, a speakeasy-like space with velvety furniture and a very chic gold disco ball.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

You can rent a car ($26 for overnight parking), but walking around in Culver is a treat. Beyond hailing an Uber or Lyft (which are everywhere), Culver is in a unique location with great access to the metro system (13-minute walk). Without changing trains you can ride all the way to Santa Monica to the west or Downtown to the East.

Restaurants

Father’s Office (6-minute drive) is a once-in-a-lifetime burger experience you have to taste to believe (no substitutions!). Closer to the hotel is Tender Greens (1-minute walk) for healthy salads.

Bars

Although you won’t want to leave the hotel, Rush Street (1-minute walk) is a good alternative for beer and sports. A little more refined (and hidden) is Seventy7 Lounge (2-minute walk). It’s tucked behind a public parking garage and serves incredible craft cocktails.
