Why We Like It

This hotel is as advertised--meaning, when they say they’re on the beach, they’re on the beach. Every room has a balcony or patio, a fireplace, and is extremely family friendly. While there’s no pool or spa worth going to, Beach House is seconds away from the water and minutes’ walk away from spas, restaurants, bars, and shopping. Pricing can get steep depending on time of year and ocean-quality view, but you won’t find a hotel in Hermosa with a better location than this.

Fodor's Expert Review

With a prime location on The Strand (a famous bike and walking path that runs from the Pacific Palisades to Torrance County Beach), guests at this beachside hotel need only walk outside to partake in the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Perfect for families, Beach House is a seaside getaway right in the heart of downtown Hermosa.

Room

Every room has a balcony, but some views are better than others (and priced accordingly). The airy accommodations come with foldout couches, fire places, Keurig coffeemakers, and kitchenettes.

Bathroom

White tiled bathrooms lead to marble sinks and separated showers and Jacuzzi tubs. The brutally honest lighting will help you identify tan lines from burn lines (there’s free sunscreen if you need it). The hotel uses Aveda products and if you want, you can take home the rubber duckie sitting on the edge of the tub.

Lobby

A small, beach-themed lobby features a fire place and a few comfy chairs, but this isn’t a hangout.

Spa

There’s only one treatment room in the hotel, but you can also take your massage in the room if they’re booked out.

Gym

A small gym is equipped with Precor machines and free weights.

Tip If you want to soak your muscles after a hard workout, step through the back of the gym and you’ll find an outdoor hot tub.

Dining

There’s no restaurant at the hotel, but they do provide a complimentary breakfast (no hot items).

You Should Know You can order room service, but only for breakfast and lunch and the food is provided by a café next to the hotel. If you’re hungry at night, you’ll have to wander outside the hotel.

Drinking

Guests can purchase beer, wine, and liquor through the front desk, but there’s no bar here. During summer months, the hotel sets up a lounge where you can imbibe on a buy-one-get-one-free drink special from 5 p.m. to sunset.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Hermosa is a very safe and small town where walking around is easy (you’ll see many locals doing it barefoot). If you want to get to other South Bay beaches, we’d recommend hailing an Uber or Lyft.

Restaurants

Check out Abigaile (5-minute walk) for one of the most inventive menus in the South Bay (the craft brews are great too). For mouthwatering $1 oysters, head over to Dia De Campo (4-minute walk) on Tuesdays between 5-7 p.m.

Bars

Along Pier Avenue by the beach (2-minute walk), you’ll find an entire courtyard filled with bars and restaurants. Check out Hennessey’s Tavern, Baja Sharkeez, Patrick Malloy’s Sports Pub, and American Junkie. Or, if you’re game, do a bar crawl and hit them all!
