Tracy Arm

One of the most popular and rewarding day trips out of Juneau is a boat trip to Tracy Arm. The narrow fjord south of the city offers access to the two-part Sawyer Glacier. En route the boats pass through twisting passageways between nearly vertical rock walls, dodging vibrant blue icebergs and stopping to let passengers catch glimpses of passing wildlife, including whales, dolphins, eagles, seals, sea lions, and bears. Calving—when pieces of the glacier break off and fall into the water—is common here and a breathtaking thing to see, even for the locals. Companies offering service to Tracy Arm include Allen Marine and Adventure Bound Alaska.
