Tok

Loggers, miners, old sourdoughs (Alaskan for "colorful local curmudgeons"), and hunting guides who live and work along Tok's streams or in the millions of acres of spruce forest nearby come here for supplies. The population of Tok is 1,250 year-round, but its residents are joined each summer by thousands of travelers, among them adventurers journeying up the Alaska Highway from the Lower 48. Tok is more of a gateway to nearby attractions, such as the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge, than a destination in itself, but its visitor center is worth a visit. The town also has markets, fueling stops, and some restaurants and hotels.
