Why We Like It

Sylvie and Jean-Marc, the couple who restored and run this small auberge, are wonderful hosts who eagerly share their information about activities and attractions in the area. We love the back garden, directly onto River Gouffre, and the back balconies. After filling up on the house breakfast, you’re just steps from Baie-Saint-Paul’s main street, rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

Room

All four rooms have a nautical connection—in name or style. For example, The Titanic room has an antique queen-sized bed and a vintage newspaper article about the ship. The linens are high quality. Although the rooms are supposed to be soundproof, the front room over the main street catches some noise from below.

You Should Know There are no king-sized beds available and some of the flouncy bed skirts might not appeal to more modern tastes.

Bathroom

Updated during the restoration, the bathrooms are modern, clean and comfortable. Because it’s a heritage property, you can’t expect expansive floor space.

Lobby

What an impressive wooden staircase! The lobby has a wide and welcoming vestibule, with an antique desk and views of the French doors off the dining room.

Tip The wrap-around porch, freshly painted white each year, is an old timey treat. It's the perfect place to catch up on some reading.

Dining

A deluxe breakfast is included in the room rate. It’s a multi-course affair, so devote a bit of time to the morning meal.

Getting Around

An hour’s drive from Quebec City, the town of Baie-Saint-Paul has a handy train service that runs from June to October ($76, return ticket), three runs per day. Ask about the auberge’s VIA Rail packages. But expect to walk everywhere in town, without it being taxing.

For fine dining, along with a glass wine cellar and pastoral views, walk over to Les Labours Restaurant (7-minute walk), inside Le Germain Hotel Charlevoix.
