Why We Like It

The legacy, the elegance, the drama—all good reasons to love the Ritz-Carlton. This esteemed property is part of the city’s international profile. Everyone knows “the Ritz”. Now, with the pool and new deluxe suites, it accommodates larger entourages with ease. We appreciate the roomy hallways (wide enough for two steamer trunks to pass, of course) the soundproof windows, the Canadian art collection and the impeccably mannered staff.

Fodor's Expert Review

Resplendent after a multi-year renovation, “The Ritz” retains its standing as one of Montreal’s grandest hotels. It’s a new day, with a celebrity chef helming the lobby restaurant and a Dom Perignon bar in the Palm Court.

Tip The doormen are legendary fixers who’ve worked there for decades. Ask them anything--they got you covered.

Room

They heard you—the rooms are bigger now and the hotel added full suites. Comfy and refined, the décor has built-in window seats, unexpected accents of purple faux croc and dark hardwood floors.

Tip Don’t worry about groping the walls and running into furniture on your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. There’s a dim strip of floor lights guiding the way.

Bathroom

The jewel in the crown of the renovation, the bathrooms are big and beautiful. The floors and towel racks are heated, the tubs are extra deep, the high-tech Japanese toilets double as bidets and the mirrors de-fog. These bathrooms are downright exquisite.

Lobby

Everything seems the same, only better—simply remastered, if you will. The lobby was restored, retaining the brass-and-wood revolving door, the stately Palm Court, the garden, the vintage mail slot and more.

Pool

Say hello to the new infinity pool, which could pass as a mermaid’s dream palace. The deck area—half indoor, half out—has soft patio furniture and calming wood accents.

Dining

By hosting a Daniel Boulud restaurant on the ground floor, the Ritz-Carlton became a new destination for Canadian foodies. It’s an open-concept kitchen that uses local artisan products in its French cuisine, and also serves brunch on weekends.

Tip Their deluxe high tea service is still the best thing to do with your aunt for her birthday.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Located on a major east-west artery in downtown, the Ritz-Carlton is easy to find and convenient to all city sites. Why spoil it by bringing a car? Parking is a nuisance downtown, where you’ll undoubtedly get a ticket or spend an inordinate amount of money on the valet service. Taxis are your best bet.

Restaurants

Order the steak frites at L’Express (15-minute car ride) for an authentic Montreal brasserie experience. Or, join visiting celebrities dining quietly at the cellar-like De Emma (15-minute car ride) for handmade pasta (we see you, Johnny Depp).

Bars

The lobby bar is cozy and fun, but if you want to experience more of the city, go to the Burgundy Lion (10-minute drive) for the extensive scotch menu and the convivial British pub atmosphere. Or, enjoy the 50-odd types of wine-by-the-glass at Pullman (10-minute car ride).
