Fodor's Expert Review Le Marriott Château Champlain

1050 rue de la Gauchetière Ouest, Montréal, Québec, H3B 4C9, Canada

An icon from Expo1967, this 36-floor skyscraper overlooking Place du Canada is always full of business guests, families, and prom parties, due to its expansive views of the city from its distinctive half moon windows and the indoor links to the métro and Underground City. A major refresh with plans for completion by early 2022 has transformed the main level into a brighter, airier space, which will be punctuated by visual art from world-renowned international and local artists. The lobby is distinctive in white marble and its original Neoclassic arches have a more modern look. Lloyd, the new restaurant and bar named named for Frank Lloyd Wright, the mentor of the hotel’s architect D’Astous, offer different choices of seating arrangements, including discreet alcoves, or alcoves under the arches for private têtes à têtes. In the rooms, gone are the heavy, dated window dressing and wall-to-wall carpeting, now replaced with sheer white curtains, clean white bedcovers, linen wall panels in white and pale gray, and espresso brown hardwood floors. Contemporary white, black and dove gray furnishings lend the rooms an air of tranquility despite the busy downtown location and urban views.
