Why We Like It

Facing a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, this B&B is near to our heart because of the views, the central Plateau location, the free Wi-Fi, and the grand revival architecture. It recalls a more elegant time when town homes were designed as works of art. We love the organic ethos, including cleaning products and bedding. As if the park across the street isn’t enough access to nature, there’s a private terrace out back for enjoying the deluxe breakfast or just resting your feet.

Fodor's Expert Review

A magnet for love-struck couples who want some privacy while visiting friends on the Plateau. The white terra cotta tiles give this converted residential chateau a “wedding cake” panache.

You Should Know There are only five guest rooms, so plan ahead to avoid disappointment. After coverage in The New York Times, their popularity soared.

Room

The room interior includes hardwood floors, detailed wainscoting, moldings from the 1890s and low, sleek beds. Plus, there’s an indoor fire pit--in the room! Four of the rooms face The Mountain and Parc Mont Royal’s most dramatic cliff face.

You Should Know Like many old homes, there’s little sound proofing and plenty of squeaky floors.

Bathroom

Hello, claw-foot tub! Each bathroom is different and stylish with towel ladders and porcelain sinks. Some tubs are exposed to the rest of the room. Hope you're not feeling shy, or that you're staying alone.

Lobby

It’s a grand entryway, befitting a French Renaissance revival mansion. That means there’s a (restored) terra cotta fountain to greet guests and set the tone.

Dining

This B&B serves an organic vegetarian continental breakfast, including hot options and yogurt, and guests are free to use the kitchen and its refrigerator. Eat on the private terrace or retreat to your room.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Bring comfy shoes and walk the Plateau--don’t drive. It’s about the journey on these hip streets full of boutiques and artsy cafes. Also, the B&B is right across from the famous Sunday “tam tam” sessions. Buses are annoyingly infrequent and/or packed on the Plateau, so take Ubers or taxis to leave the area.

Restaurants

For your vegan lunch, there’s Crudessence (10-minute walk), where the smoothies and snacks are tremendous. And there are delicious homemade vegetarian meals at Lola Rosa on Milton (10-minute walk). Get the Tunisian “stew” and the nachos.

Bars

Walk over to Icehouse (10-minute walk), a Tex-Mex BBQ joint, for a glass of their signature bourbon lemonade, then head across the street to Else’s (10-minute walk) for scotch, pitchers of sangria or classic cocktails.
