Fodor's Expert Review Hillhurst Inn
181 Fitzroy St., Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, C1A 1S3, Canada
In the heart of downtown, this grand, renovated 1897 Georgian Revival mansion has tasteful guest rooms. The inn was once the home of a prominent Charlottetown merchant who made a fortune in shipbuilding. The shipwrights he employed created the exceptional burnished oak and beech paneling that graces the inn's reception area, dining room, and living room. Most of the rooms are big, bright, and boast period furniture. Several also have exquisite handmade beds and Island art. A complimentary hot breakfast is the only meal served on-site, but the hosts will obligingly make restaurant reservations on your behalf.
