Fodor's Expert Review Blomidon Inn

195 Main St., Wolfville, Nova Scotia, B4P 1C3, Canada

Teak and mahogany furnishings, marble fireplaces, Victorian-style wallpaper, and a painted ceiling mural all add to the ambience at this 1887 sea captain's mansion. It's a family affair: the owners' sons are the chef and sommelier. Intimate meals are served in the dining room, where Atlantic salmon is a specialty. In warm weather, lunch and dinner can be taken on the terrace, and afterward you can work off the calories walking in the 3-acre garden.

PROS

  • central location in walking distance to most attractions
  • several rooms have Jacuzzis and propane fireplaces
  • the stand-alone Perth Cottage offers maximum privacy

CONS

  • dinner reservations recommended even for guests
  • some rooms on third floor and there's no elevator
  • only a cold breakfast buffet
