Hiking Trails. The landscape is the main attraction here, and finding windswept wildflower patches, carpets of bakeapples, crashing waves or brilliant pack ice (depending on the season) is as simple as walking a path. Many footpaths along the coasts of Fogo lead to small surprises (a bronze sculpture of the giant auk on a remote rock), the modern architectural silhouettes of Shorefast's artist-in-residence studios (www.shorefast.org), or even one of the four corners of the world (at Brimstone Head according to the Flat Earth Society). See the visitor center in Seldom for more information. Fogo Island, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Squid Jiggers Trail. There are more than a few nice hikes on Change Islands, but this one is the most notable. It is a moderate hike of 6.3 km (about 4 miles) with some steep sections. Following along the northeastern coast, it provides an alternate view of Brimstone Head on Fogo and is a peaceful vantage for whale-watching and iceberg sightings.
