Fodor's Expert Review Parkland Village Inn
8601 Main St., Alma, New Brunswick, E4H 1N6, Canada
Right on the water, next to the fishermen's wharf in the heart of the bustling village, this long-established inn also has a very good restaurant. Each of the rooms has an individual, restful, if somewhat dated style, while the suites have a veranda, private entrance, and 8-foot windows facing the bay. In the Tides Restaurant, the menu offers dishes such as scallops flambéed with Sambuca, bacon, and cream, lobster-stuffed chicken, and hickory-smoked ribs. A wall of windows overlooks the water, interrupted only by the hummingbirds that buzz around feeders attached to the glass.
PROS
- view of the Bay of Fundy is extraordinary
- overnight guests have guaranteed seating in the busy restaurant
- children stay for free
CONS
- can be hard to get a room or table in peak season
- breakfast not included in July and August rates
- standard "parkview" rooms overlook the main street
