Fodor's Expert Review St. Regis Hotel

602 Dunsmuir St., Vancouver, British Columbia, V6B 1Y6, Canada

It's the oldest continuously operating hotel in the city, but edgy, modern decor livens up the 1913 boutique property, and Canadian artwork (including in the stairwells) and heritage furnishings gives it a unique sense of place. Rooms and suites come in various shapes, sizes, and configurations (sofa beds and adjoining doors are good family options) because of the building's original architecture. All rooms have plug-and-play gadget panels, in-room safes that accommodate laptops, and more than 200 TV channels. The lower-level front rooms can be noisy: there's a pub below and middle-of-the-night deliveries can be disturbing. You have a choice of bathroom styles—some only have showers, but make no mistake, they're first-class and all have heated bathroom floors and L'Occitane en Provence bath products. Although there are no views, the rates include à la carte breakfast for two and other niceties like passes to Fitness World around the corner. The Gotham Steak House ( 604/605-8282) is a local fave.
