Fodor's Expert Review Tropic Star Lodge
La Palma, Darién, Panama
The Tropic Star Lodge offers access to world-class sport fishing in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Built in the 1960s by a Texas millionaire, Tropic Star has since evolved into one of the world's great fishing lodges. Daily fishing on the lodge's 31-foot Bertrams is included in package rates, as are three meals per day. Hiking, kayaking, and massages are also available. Spacious, air-conditioned guest rooms have two double beds or one king bed, large baths, and a porch with views of Piñas Bay. No TVs or phones disturb the tranquility. Hearty meals, which always include fresh seafood, are served in the air-conditioned restaurant or by the pool. A minimum one-week stay is required during the high season from January to March, but three- and four-night packages are available the rest of the year.
