Fodor's Expert Review Museo de Arte Sacro

Mérida Art Museum

Located in the town of Conkal, about ten kilometers (six miles) to the northeast of Mérida, the Museum of Sacred Art is tucked behind a colonial church in the small town. The museum, which is in one of the peninsula's 20 or so convents that date from the 16th century, is run by the archdiocese of Yucatán. The items on display in its six rooms include sculptures, vestments, paintings, and other objects that shine light on the nearly 500-year-old presence of the Catholic Church in the Yucatán.
