Fodor's Expert Review Labná

This was a small though important settlement in the Puuc region and like many of its neighbors, its peak was roughly between AD 600 and 900. While there is a palace and a small pyramid, the most photographed building at Labná is a striking monumental corbelled arch. (Labná means "old house" or "abandoned house.") With its elaborate latticework and a small chamber on each side; it provided a grand entrance into a sacred precinct for anyone arriving on the road to and from Uxmal. It is believed that Labná was used mainly by royalty and the military elite.
