Ticul Travel Guide

One of the larger communities in the Yucatán, Ticul (with a population of around 21,000) is a good base for exploring the Puuc region—provided you don't mind rudimentary hotels and a limited choice of simple restaurants. Many descendants of the Xiu Dynasty, which ruled Uxmal until the conquest, still live here. Industries include the fabrication of shoes and huipiles (the traditional white embroidered dresses worn by indigenous women) as well as much of the pottery you see around the Yucatán. Ticul also has a handsome 17th-century church.
