Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.
On an old coconut plantation outside town, this hotel offers classy comfort in thatch-roof bungalows along a shell-strewn beach. Each unit has two queen beds, tile floors, and attractive wicker, cedar, and pine furniture. The extra-large porch has twin hammocks and comfortable chairs. Although there are no TVs, phones, or air-conditioning, there are plenty of other perks like a yoga center, juice bar, gym, spa, and two swimming pools. Biking and bird-watching tours as well as night safaris and outings to old haciendas or archaeological sites can be arranged; kayaks and bikes are available for rent. The website details their eco-initiatives, which include solar-powered rooms, a recycling program, and the practice of keeping outdoor lighting low so sea turtles aren't disoriented.
