Fodor's Expert Review Casa Tía Micha

Calle 39 No. 197, Valladolid, Yucatán, 97780, Mexico Fodor's Choice

More than a century old, this colonial home has been beautifully transformed into a five-bedroom, two-suite hotel that is owned and operated by "Micha's" grandchildren. The attractive rooms, some named after historic churches in Valladolid, have beamed ceilings, antique furnishings, wrought-iron headboards, and old photographs of the city. Modern touches are subtle—like flat-screen TVs hidden inside rustic armoires, quiet air-conditioning units, and rain showerheads inside marble bathrooms. The two slightly larger suites have Jacuzzi tubs, stocked minibars, and Turkish bathrobes. Despite its central location, this cozy casa has lush gardens with a waterfall as well as a courtyard, where a delightful breakfast of fruit, cereal, yogurt, and eggs is served.
