Fodor's Expert Review Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park

Akumal Family
Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park, Akumal

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

This park holds some of the Yucatán's most spectacular cenotes, made semi-famous by the 2002 IMAX film, Journey into Amazing Caves. You can explore these startlingly clear freshwater sinkholes, which are full of fantastic stalactites, stalagmites, and rock formations, on guided diving or snorkeling tours, or just splash into them on a zipline. To get to the cenotes, you ride in a jungle buggy through dense tropical forest from the main park entrance. You can also ride the sky cycle, a cable bicycle that glides over the abundant Mayan rain forest. Prices start at $35 for snorkeling tours, but the all-inclusive package is a better deal at $80. Two-tank diving tours are $130. Bring natural bug spray.
