Riviera Caribe Maya

Av. 10 and Calle 30, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo 77710, Mexico

Why We Like It

Because it offers good value and excellent location. It is a small hotel with good service, clean rooms and a gorgeous rooftop swimming pool that we love.

Fodor's Expert Review

A small centric hotel, in which the main asset is its perfect location just one block away from the famous Fifth Avenue and a short walk from the beach. This property offers good value for the budget-conscious traveler. Don’t let it fool you by the unattractive building, it’s a warm place to stay right in the heart of Playa del Carmen.

Tip Looking for a parking lot in the nearby area could be a wise decision. This is a safe area, but overnight parking is cheap and there is no need to take risks.

Room

The rooms are clean and serviceable. The décor is so simple that flirts with becoming kitsch. All rooms have Wi-Fi, air conditioning and ceiling fans, plus a small TV with cable channels. Some rooms have a balcony, some others come with Jacuzzi and the main suite has direct access to the rooftop terrace with swimming pool.

You Should Know The location of this hotel means two things: a lot of things to do and a lot of noise. Most windows in this hotel aren’t sound proof and that could be an issue during night time.

Bathroom

Most bathrooms have a traditional Mexican décor, with hand-painted tiles and bathroom sinks. Recent renovations work meant modernizing the bathrooms of some suites, adding accents of pink marble, double stained-glass sinks and whirlpool tubs.

Lobby

A surprisingly cozy lobby, well-equipped with comfortable sofas and a series of semi-empty book-shelves, that create an inviting ambience to just sit down and read a book.

Pool

The main swimming pool takes the spotlight in what otherwise would be the central patio of the building. Most rooms open directly or have views of the pool. The rooftop pool is smaller, but more intimate and enjoys great views of both the Caribbean Sea and the city.

Dining

A poolside snack bar serves a variety of pizzas, hamburgers and hot-dogs, while an a la carte restaurant serves delicious homemade dishes from traditional Mexican cuisine.

Drinking

A little lobby bar and the snack bar are the drinking options at Riviera Caribe Maya. In reality, you are steps away from one of the streets with more bars and nightclubs in all Mexico. So, don’t worry about drinks.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

This hotel is all about location. The moment you get out of the car after a 50-minute drive from Cancun International Airport could be the last one in a vehicle. The hotel enjoys such a privileged location that you may walk almost everywhere. Everything is within walking distance – the beach the bustling Fifth Avenue with its restaurants, bars and stores.

Restaurants

Not easy, you could walk to almost every restaurant in town. La Perla Pixan (3-minute walk) is probably one of the closest ones that are really worth a visit. Their really Mexican menu, and ad hoc style will not disappoint you and some options are really unique. Have you ever tried grilled cockroach? Las hijas de la tostada (6-minute walk) is another Mexican establishment acclaimed by locals for its really delicious seafood, plus hipster atmosphere.

Bars

La Bodeguita del Medio (4-minute walk) is one of the best places in town to drink mojitos and dance salsa. And if you can’t dance, just come to watch others do it. Fascinating. The best Micheladas in Playa del Carmen are apparently sold at Las Helodias (3-minute walk) and there are many to confirm this theory.
