Cocos Cabanas

Xcalacoco, La Gloria Lt 2, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo 77710, Mexico

Why We Like It

Because it has a personal touch and a friendly atmosphere. The cabanas’ design is tasteful and unique for each bungalow. The beach is two minutes away and downtown Playa del Carmen is not far.

Fodor's Expert Review

The charm of Coco’s Cabanas originates in the marked contrast between its individually designed bungalows, and the standardization offered by the mega-resorts. In this concept, Coco’s is by no means the only option, but it’s certainly one of the best. An interesting choice for the independent traveler who looks for unique experiences.

You Should Know This hotel does not have direct access to the beach, although it’s just a short walk away and offer to guests preferential rate at a nearby beach club.

Room

Each one of the six cabanas available in the property has its own distinctive personality. However, they all share a tasteful style that balances modern furnishing with tropical elements like thatched-roof palapas and Mayan-inspired decorative elements. All suites include air-conditioning, ceiling fans, Wi-Fi access and cable TV, with some suites also featuring a practical kitchenette.

Bathroom

The bathrooms come in different styles too, some include pink-marble countertops and black-onix sinks, while others come with artsy mosaic designs on their shower’s floor. Something they all have in common is the rounded nature of their walls, which gives them a fluid feeling and makes the most of the limited space.

Lobby

Get off your car or taxi and introduce yourself into a lavish tropical garden, with a relaxing pool on one side, a labyrinth of pathways on the other and a big palapa waiting for you once you passed the pool. That palapa works as lobby, restaurant, bar, nightclub and souvenir shop.

Pool

The small heart-like swimming pool feels like a friend’s pool where one goes to spend the day in a relaxed environment. The vegetation surrounding the area is amazing and a series of loungers, tables and hammocks provide the needed seating options. It also comes in handy that the restaurant is just a couple of meters from the pool.

Dining

The restaurant of Coco’s Cabanas is its main asset. A lively place where every morning a complimentary continental breakfast is served to guests, and that for lunch and dinner serves a diversity of dishes from Mexican and European origin. Their pizzas cooked at a gorgeous wood-oven and the catch of the day dishes are some of the best options.

Tip Don’t forget to bring your mosquitoes repellent, especially by night.

Drinking

As we said before, this big palapa works as lobby, restaurant, bar and everything in between. During the day hours, a cold beer by the pool feels like glory, by night it frequently offers live music and extraordinary Margaritas.
