Fodor's Expert Review Siesta Suites
Emiliano Zapata, Centro, San Lucas, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur 23410, México See on Map
The owners keep a close eye on this four story hotel—a calm refuge two blocks from the marina—and dispense great insider advice to visitors. The simply furnished rooms have kitchenettes with full-size refrigerators, two double beds, and living rooms with wide padded couches, so if necessary, there's room to sleep quite a crew. Included are Wi-Fi and cable TV, but if you want coffee, head to the Internet cafe next to reception. Rooms have balconies and there's a sundeck on every floor with a tiny plunge pool. If your budget allows, opt for the suite with an incredible view. Salvatore's Restaurant, an Italian eatery, is situated poolside; it's widely acclaimed by resident gringos in the know.
The owners also have a condo on the beach in San José for rent by the week.
room
Cool tile floors, ceiling fans, and clean and comfortable linens are highlights in the 5 standard rooms, with 15 suites offering the added benefit of a full refrigerator, and appliances like microwaves and coffee makers. The penthouse requires daily stair climbs, but boasts a spacious hammock, panoramic city views, and a patio capable of hosting a party for 40 of your closest Cabo friends.
Siesta Suites’ penthouse is the best deal in town, with comfortable furnishings and an enormous patio for under $100 per night during high-season.
bathroom
Bathroom amenities are basic, with walk-in showers, and single-basin sinks topped by vintage style, wood-framed mirrors.
lobby
The lobby is small, with few frills: a check-in desk, a cooler filled with bottled waters and sodas for sale, and a couple of chairs around a desk filled with local magazines. An adjoining room hosts an activities desk, and Siesta Suites maintains relationships with several reputable fishing and adventure companies.
dining
An outdoor grill is available for visiting BBQ specialists, and live music is offered several times per week during high tourist season (November to May).
LOCATION
Getting Around
The hotel is set in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, putting guests a little more than one block from the marina, and less than two blocks from Sammy Hagar’s benchmark boozing spot, Cabo Wabo Cantina. Reaching Playa El Médano requires a 15-minute hike, but transportation needs are few for those staying at this downtown hideaway. Car rentals can be arranged in the lobby for day trips to San José del Cabo, Todos Santos, or La Paz.
Restaurants
Italian themed restaurant Salvatore’s is located within Siesta Suites’ courtyard, but is not directly affiliated with the hotel. Guests have easy access to reservations, however, at what is one of the most popular eateries among locals and regular visitors. Salvatore’s is famed for its enormous portions and affordable prices, and chef/owner Tim Galluzzo also owns neighboring comfort food spots Sammy G’s and Salvatore’s II (all within a short 1-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
It’s little wonder this place maintains such a loyal cadre of return visitors. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the location is fantastic, and the prices are very hard to beat.
