Fodor's Expert Review Royal Solaris Los Cabos
Paseo Malecón, Lote 10, Zona Hotelera, San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur 23400, México See on Map
Royal Solaris was the first all-inclusive in Los Cabos, and it runs smoothly, with plenty of entertainment options and sports activities offered. Although it can feel a bit like an amusement park with all the activities, you will be entertained. There are four major dinner shows per week in their theater, Teatro Tehuacan. There's a casino night, a Latin Show, and other themed nights as well. A complete Kids' Club area includes toboggan waterslides, dancing lessons, and kites. Guests can play tennis, basketball, and beach volleyball. There are four categories of rooms, with half facing the ocean and half facing the street.
room
Rooms feature tasteful tropical décor – polished wooden headboards, tables and cabinets; evocative artworks; white linens topped by pastel-colored pillows and bed runners – with satellite smart LED televisions and, in many cases, superb balcony views of the Sea of Cortés.
bathroom
The walk-in showers are elegantly tiled, and large countertop spaces provide ample room for toiletries and makeup items.
lobby
Chandeliers, tropical planters, and patterned tile floors beneath high, wood-beamed ceilings distinguish the stately lobby area.
pool
The resort boasts four swimming pools, including two for adults. Kids can splash around in their own water park, sliding down from a pool-bound pirate ship, among other fun-filled attractions.
spa
Salon services, massages, and a steam room are among the many beauty and wellness highlights at the on-site spa.
gym
The recently upgraded fitness center has more exercise machines than ever, plus plenty of free weights.
dining
All-inclusive food and beverage plans translate to abundant dining choices, from buffet style eateries Café Solaris and Rosmarinus to pie specialist Pizzalísima, Italian themed Marco Polo, and standard bearer for traditional Mexican cuisine, Pancho’s.
Brazilian steakhouse style restaurant Rodizio is only open on Mondays.
drinking
Pool and snack bars are perfect for afternoon pick-me-ups, while the wood-paneled Lobby Bar offers more sophisticated ambiance and live music nightly.
LOCATION
Getting Around
The many resorts of the city’s hotel zone are within walking distance, as is popular shopping and dining center Plaza del Pescador. Taxi service is a convenient option to reach the downtown area, and buses run regularly between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, as well as to regional destinations like Todos Santos and La Paz. Rental cars are the preferred choice, however, for travelers who would like to explore the region at their own pace.
Restaurants
Shopping center Plaza del Pescador is just across the street. Palate-pleasing stops of note include acclaimed Italian restaurant La Forchetta and burger and beer standout Rock & Brews, part of the chain established by KISS rock stars Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Royal Solaris is one of the best family-friendly resorts in Los Cabos, with a huge beachfront area, a dedicated kids’ club and water park, themed activities and entertainment, and even basketball and tennis courts.
