One of the most exquisite resorts in Los Cabos, focused on privacy and impeccable service, and home to one of the best spas in the region, Esperanza is true luxury. The grounds are comprised of both the resort and residences, with the latter boasting their own restaurants and swimming pools. All casitas are 950 square feet and have handcrafted Mexican-style furnishings, Frette linens, walk-in closets, and massive bathrooms with dual-head showers and balcony-set Jacuzzis. Included in the rate are lovely touches like daily fruit, Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee machines, stocked mini-bars, and sunrise yoga. Room service is ordered through personalized iPads, and you can watch the whales from telescopes or Nikon binoculars in every room. Villas take the luxe even further, as some have private pools and butler service. Californian and Mexican recipes get a Baja twist in atmospheric Cocina del Mar, and other property restaurants, while guests can be found relaxing at all hours at the chic alfresco lounge, just above the pool. The spa takes treatments to a whole new level, with steam caves, and a waterfall, as well as visiting instructors, and a regular schedule of classes. Framed by a rocky cove, the resort's location makes the beach virtually private since it can't be accessed other than through the property itself.
The 59 suites offer a comforting mix of rustic elegance and modern amenities, from distressed dressers and armoires to iPad tablets for room service and concierge assistance. The interiors were redesigned post Hurricane Odile in 2014 by Mary Alice Palmer of HKS Hospitality Group.
All rooms feature either a terrace hammock or jacuzzi.
Guests are greeted, then escorted to a step-down outdoor lobby area which overlooks the Sea of Cortés, and the resort’s signature restaurant, Cocina del Mar.
The primary pool area was also redesigned post Hurricane Odile, with a lower level added with half-submerged chaise lounges. The upper level is lined with lounges and daybeds, and both overlook a beach and secluded cove where waves explode scenically against offshore rocks.
Additional pools are offered in the property’s residences area, including a kid-friendly area.
Several times honored as the best in Latin America, The Spa at Esperanza is an oasis of tranquility, with pampering facilities and an array of massages and wellness treatments.
There are two air-conditioned gym areas near the spa, one largely given over to cardio machines, the other to resistance machines and weights. Yoga and other fitness classes are scheduled regularly.
Signature restaurant Cocina del Mar is notable in two regards: the superb seafood dishes from Argentine chef Guillermo Gomez, and the picturesque outdoor dining area set against a backdrop of crashing waves.
Esperanza is located in the tourist corridor which connects the cape cities, closer to Cabo San Lucas than San José del Cabo. Taxis are available for visits to either city, but rental cars are recommended for more extensive explorations of the area.
The resort runs a complimentary shuttle during dinner hours to nearby Auberge brand resort Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, home to the excellent Latin American themed restaurant COMAL, and tequila and taco lounge TnT.
Latitude 22 - The Roadhouse (3-minutes by car, just off the Carretera Transpeninsular at Km 4.5) is one of the area’s signature drinking establishments, with Land’s End views from the bar, and a treasure trove of historic Los Cabos photos and memorabilia.
