Bus Travel
There is no single bus station connecting the capital with the rest of the country. Many companies have their terminals in Comayagüela, the community across the Río Choluteca from downtown. It's a rough neighborhood, so be on your guard. A few companies have moved their terminals to more spacious digs in the southern part of the city.
If you're headed north, Viana and Hedman Alas travel to San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. They offer clean, comfortable coaches with air-conditioning, snacks, and even movies. Sáenz Primera has six departures per day to San Pedro Sula and three to Choluteca. El Rey Express has a decent hourly direct (meaning just a couple of stops) to San Pedro Sula. Cristina offers a slightly less frequent service to La Ceiba, from which you can hop off to Tela. Cotraibal has two morning departures to Trujillo.
The only buses west are the slow ones labeled servicio a escala (frequently-stopping, or local, service), but El Rey and Los Norteños will take you to Comayagua, Siguatepeque, and Lago de Yojoa. La Sultana heads to Santa Rosa de Copán four times a day, and El Junqueño can get you to Santa Bárbara.
Three bus companies provide international bus services to and from Tegucigalpa: TicaBus connects the capital with Managua, San José, and Panama City each day; TransNica travels daily to Managua and San José; King Quality provides daily service to San Salvador.

Bus Travel Within Tegucigalpa
Enough pickpocketings and robberies of foreigners on city buses have occurred that we don't recommend them as a mode of transport within the capital. Stick with taxis instead.
