Taxi Travel

Roatán is crawling with taxis. Colectivo taxis, in which the driver picks up other passengers along the way, are far less expensive than private taxis. A collective taxi ride from Coxen Hole to French Harbour or to West End should not cost more than L80. Private taxis from Coxen Hole should cost around L220 per person to West End (unless you're coming from the airport, which has a set rate of L560) and L350-440 to West Bay. In Utila, three-wheel tuk-tuk taxis roam the streets and charge L25 per person, and shared taxis from the airport cost L60 per person. Keep in mind that after dark, taxis tend to charge whatever they feel like (usually double or triple the daytime rates) so always agree on a rate before getting in.
