One of Costa Rica's most remote regions is also one of its prime tourist destinations. No roads lead to Tortuguero on the northeast coast, so plane or boat are your only options. If you don't want to bother with logistics, consider booking a package tour with one of the lodges. It will include all transport from San José and back, overnights, meals, and guided tours. Prices look high at first, but considering all you get, they are quite reasonable.
