White-Water Rafting

The three white-water rivers in this area have limited seasons, when the rains from August to October raise them to their perfect peak. The Naranjo River offers a short but exciting run, with Class III–V rapids calling for some experience (April–December only). The Parrita River provides a relatively mellow (Class II–III) white-water route, but it's only navigable in two-person inflatable duckies. The Savegre River has two navigable stretches: a Class II–III lower section that's a mellow trip perfect for neophytes, and a more rambunctious upper section of Class III–IV rapids. It flows past patches of rain forest that are usually navigable year-round, and it's also good for fly-fishing.

Amigos del Río. Catering to all levels of adrenaline junkies, Amigos del Río has six-hour rafting trips on the Savegre River (Class III rapids), four-hour trips on the Naranjo River (Class III–IV), and five-hour trips on the El Chorro section of the Naranjo River (Class IV–V). Included in the rate are breakfast, lunch, transportation, equipment, and bilingual guides. Tours depart at 7 and 11:30 am daily.
