Fodor's Expert Review Florblanca

2 km (1 mile) north of soccer field, Santa Teresa, Puntarenas, 60111, Costa Rica Fodor's Choice

Named for the white flowers of the frangipani trees growing between the restaurant and the beach, this ultraluxurious resort is dedicated to relaxation and rejuvenation. Villas are almost buried in an artistically controlled tangle of mature garden and soaring palms, mere steps from the surf. Each tastefully decorated and spacious villa exudes a South Sea Islands vibe, especially in the outdoor Balinese-inspired bathrooms with rain showers and sunken tubs. Airy living rooms open onto porches with large hammocks. Most villas have one air-conditioned bedroom with a king-size bed; two-bedroom villas have a second room with twin beds. Only four villas have sea views through the trees, so request one of these when you book. Villas 5 and 6 are a little too close to the dusty road. Florblanca's Surf House, slightly more rustic but a little cheaper, sleeps up to 6 people, has its own secluded beach, and the best ocean views. Yoga classes are given in a studio that faces the ocean, and there is a full range of spa services at the hotel's Bamboo Spa. Along with luxury and service, the hotel pays attention to conservation, earning four leaves in the national sustainability program. The only TV is in a comfortable lounge. Bicycles, surfboards, and snorkeling gear are available to guests.
