All Central Valley towns have taxis, which usually wait for fares along their central parks. The rideshare service Uber operates, albeit without proper permits, in a few of the larger suburbs—Escazú, Santa Ana, Alajuela, Heredia, and Cartago—in the Central Valley. Until Uber and the government reconcile their differences, you use the service at some risk.
