Seine Bight

Like Placencia, its Creole neighbor to the south, Seine Bight is a small village. It may not be for long, though, as Placencia's resorts are stretching north to and through this Garífuna community, one of six predominantly Garífuna centers in Belize. The beach, especially south of Seine Bight, is excellent, though near the village garbage sometimes mars the view. Hotels do rake and clean their beachfronts, and several community cleanups have been organized in an effort to solve this problem. All the businesses catering to tourists are along the paved main road (actually, it's the only road) that leads south to Placencia Village. The name Seine Bight derives from a type of net, called a seine, used by local fishermen. Bight means an indentation or inward bend in the coastline.
