Car Travel

To explore the Welsh heartland properly, you really need a car. Be prepared to take the scenic route: there are no major highways north of Swansea (which means virtually all of Wales). For the most part it's all back roads, all the way. There are some stunning routes to savor: the A487 road runs along or near most of the coastline, while the A44 and A470 both wind through mountain scenery with magnificent views.
