Fodor's Expert Review Bodelwyddan Castle & Park
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Between Abergele and St. Asaph, this medieval castle, which was rebuilt in the 19th century, was used as a hospital during World War I. Inside, you can see an exhibition of portraits from the era, as well as a fine collection of Welsh art. The castle grounds contain a fascinating, if somber, historical footnote: a network of overgrown World War I trenches, used by the army to train new recruits. A replica of the trenches brings the history to life. Also on the grounds are a maze, an aviary, and pretty woodland walks. The castle is 16 miles east of Llandudno.
