The best way to explore this area is by car, especially if you want to travel off the beaten path and forgo organized tours of Gallipoli, which is very spread out. Roads are quite good and well marked. There are several options for getting to the region from Istanbul; one is to take the E80 headed for Ankara. At İzmit take Route 130 to Yalova; Route 575 connects Yalova and Bursa. The drive from Istanbul will be significantly shortened with the expected opening in 2017 of the İzmit Bay Bridge, which will allow drivers to bypass the road that loops around İzmit Bay.
