Named for an Ottoman admiral (some say pirate), Turgutreis lies due west on the opposite side of the peninsula from Bodrum. The second-largest town on the peninsula, it has a more developed coast, and a popular and lively bazaar. Its marina attracts the yachting crowd and is more touristy than the other bays. After swimming in the pristine sea at Akyarlar and Karaincir, Turgutreis’s 2½ km (1½ miles) of sandy beach may feel a little crowded.
