Fodor's Expert Review Istanbul Modern
Housed in a converted warehouse on the shores of the Bosphorus, the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art showcases modern and contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and works in other media from Turkey and around the world. The permanent collection tells the story of modern Turkish art from its late-19th-century beginnings up through the present day, while a top-notch program of temporary exhibitions features significant local and international contemporary artists, with one gallery devoted exclusively to photography. A private tour can be organized in English for groups of four or more (10 TL per person) and will give you a good introduction to the art scene in Turkey. The museum also has a sculpture garden, small cinema, and design store, while the Istanbul Modern Restaurant offers beautiful views of the Sea of Marmara and the Old City.
