Fodor's Expert Review Şazeli
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
The specialty at this small, family-run kebab house that turns out very tasty food is dürüm, kebabs wrapped in a soft, tortilla-like flatbread—but make sure you sample some of the delicious appetizers: perhaps the smoky, grilled eggplant spread mixed with thick yogurt and garlic, or the chopped salad with walnuts in a tangy pomegranate-molasses dressing. Save room for the "Şazeli special dessert," a baklava-like triangle made out of semolina and ground pistachio and pine nuts, and stuffed with butter cream. The restaurant, with an interior dominated by a large copper charcoal grill, is a good low-cost option in the very pleasant neighborhood of Ortaköy.
