Ortahisar

A rather sleepy farming village overlooking scenic Pancarl?k Valley, Ortahisar was traditionally famous for its underground caves where fruit was stored. Although it has recently gotten into the tourism business, with the opening of a few small hotels and places to eat, Ortahisar is still a functioning village and retains a more pleasantly authentic atmosphere than most other area towns. Visitors tend to appreciate the off-the-beaten-path vibe but should be aware that dining options and other services for travelers are limited, and the place can feel a bit deserted at night. Ortahisar, meaning "middle fortress," is named after its main landmark, a large rock outcropping/fairy chimney that was once used as a fortress.
