Fodor's Expert Review Stiftung Sammlung E.G. Bührle

Kreis 8 Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

A stunning array of Cézannes, Manets, Monets, and Degas make this eye-knocking collection one of the best art museums in Europe—unfortunately, since a spectacular robbery in 2008, visits are possible only on the first Sunday of each month. There are plans, however, to move the entire collection to Zürich's Kunsthaus by 2017. This fabled collection was put together in the space of a single decade. During the 1950s, Zürich industrialist E.G. Bührle purchased the finest offerings from the world's most prestigious art dealers, winding up with a collection studded with legendary impressionist and postimpressionist works, including Cézanne's Self Portrait with Palette, Renoir's Little Irene, and Degas's Little Dancer. Take Tram 11 from Bellevue, then Bus 77 from Hegibachplatz to the Altenhofstrasse stop.
