Gottlieben

The village of Gottlieben has a Dominican monastery-castle, where the Protestant reformers Jan Hus and Jerome of Prague were imprisoned in the 15th century by order of Emperor Sigismund and Antipope John XXIII, who was himself confined in the same castle a few years later. Although the castle can be viewed only from the outside, Gottlieben offers a romantic half-timber waterfront promenade—and two fine old hotels—before you reach the urban complex of Kreuzlingen and Germany's Konstanz.
