Fodor's Expert Review Roca Moo

$$$ Eixample Catalan Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

In any space as stylish as Roca Moo, located in the Hotel Omm, there's a real risk of the food playing second fiddle to the surroundings. Fortunately, the spotlight is fixed firmly on dishes designed by the Roca brothers, whose Celler de Can Roca restaurant has been rated as the world's best. From behind the counter of an open kitchen, young chefs cook with a Zen-like precision that suits the restaurant's Tokyo vibe. A fixed-price lunch menu gives diners a discount doorway to the Can Roca kingdom but it's the Menu Joan Roca that steals the show, a tour de force balancing act of gutsy flavors and contemporary techniques matched with impressive wine selections. Smoked pigeon carpaccio and lamb shoulder with black garlic are just a few examples of what you'll find here. Separated only by a room divider is Roca Bar, an informal gastrobar where you can snack in style on scaled-down versions of some of the brothers' greatest hits and sample their sublime Rocambolesc ice cream.
