Train

Train travel is a pleasant way of getting around Slovenia, which is well-connected to neighboring countries and other European destinations, including Vienna (twice-daily; six hours) and Budapest (once-daily; eight hours). The Ljubljana train station is just north of the city center. Check the Slovenian Railways website for timetables and to buy tickets. A great weekend option is the Izletka ticket (€15), which allows unlimited travel on the entire Slovenian network on Saturdays and Sundays.

Four trains daily link Ljubljana and Koper, passing through Postojna and Divača en route. The capital also has a couple of direct links to Trieste (Italy) throughout the day, passing through Sežana, while three direct trains head daily to Zagreb (Croatia) via Zidani Most and Sevnica (Melania Trump's hometown). The journey takes two hours and 20 minutes.
