About the Restaurants

Slovakian food is a blend of Russian, Polish, Hungarian, German, and Austrian cuisine; dishes are loaded with beef, pork, cheese, cabbage, and potatoes. Halušky, the national dish, is potato dumplings (usually) topped with melted bryndzové sheep cheese and bacon. A few intrepid chefs are experimenting with new preparations and ingredients, but on the whole, Slovaks stick to originals come mealtime. Often the cheapest (and most delicious) dishes can be found in taverns and pubs.
