Gleneagles. Its superb courses have made Gleneagles a part of golfing history. The 18 holes of the King's Course, designed by James Braid in 1919, have quirky names, such as the Warslin' Lea (Wrestling Ground)—the tough 17th hole that many golfers have grappled with. The Queen's Course mixes varied terrain, including woods and moors. Jack Nicklaus designed the PGA Centenary Course (host of the 2014 Ryder Cup), which sweeps into the Ochil Hills and has views of the Grampians. The 9-hole Wee Course provides challenges for beginners and pros. Gleneagles is also home to the PGA National Academy, a good place to improve your skills.
